No matter what

Caught up with Cam today. He came up to London and we treated him to ‘Superman returns’ for his birthday. I haven’t seen a Superman movie since Christopher Reeve so I have nothing to compare it to – the special effects were good though.
In the evening, after seeing Cam safely on his train home, we [...]

Brush up yer Shakespeare

Organised ‘Mary Poppins’ tix this morning and then headed for Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. The weather is not too bad – mid 20s, no rain.
Grabbed some lunch and then headed into the yard for the performance. We got spots by the side of the stage in the shade. This meant we could lean on the stage.
Seeing [...]

Broadway Baby

London
Caught the Eurostar to London. It is a coca cola train so we left Paris not having found Pepsi max cappuccino (ah well).
Arrived in London late afternoon and headed straight for the dear old Ashley Hotel. It’s comfortable and familiar although the area around it has changed a fair bit.
Did our now traditional ‘arrive in [...]

Almost paradise

Bruges
Left Paris at some ungodly hour and headed for the train station and Bruges via Brussels. We are still being tormented by Pepsi Max billboards; at Brussels station they are only advertising Pepsi Max-cool lemon – they don’t stock it but they are advertising it.
Bruges is a beautiful city – lovely canals, cobblestoned streets, Belgian [...]

Summertime, and the livin’ is easy

Paris
Some of you may be aware that TappingBetty and I are Pepsi Max aficionados (okay freaks). Ever since we arrived in Paris we have been tormented by these huge billboards advertising two new Pepsi Max flavours – Pepsi Max Lemon, and Pepsi Max cappuccino. Paris is very much a coca cola town – nowhere can [...]

Can Can

Paris
Caught the train from Geneva to Paris; Arrived in Paris mid afternoon and headed straight for our hotel (well it would have been straight to our hotel but we confidently exited the Paris metro one stop too early and so had a much longer walk with our suitcases to the hotel)
Our first tourist stop was [...]

Voulez Vous

Geneva
Caught up with our luggage in Geneva/Geneve/Genf – gotta love the Swiss rail system – from Zermatt we sent our cases to Geneva and travelled with just our day packs.
Lo and behold our cases were waiting for us at Geneva station when we got there.
Visited the United Nations. Due to security concerns you can’t just [...]

Climb every mountain

Have got hopelessly behind on Italy part of trip so will skip ahead to Switzerland and back fill Italy when time and internet access allows.
Caught the train to Zermatt changing at Brig. The scenery was gorgeous the whole way as Switzerland has some of the most scenic railway tracks imaginable (and lots of high bridges [...]

River deep, mountain high

Interlaken
Caught the train from Zermatt to Interlaken, (well actually to Spiez) which is on the shores of Lake Thun. Decided to be adventurous and catch the ferry from Spiez to Interlaken. (also gave us a chance to look for the spot where Kathie Ferrars stopped the runaway motor boat!)
It was beautiful on the lake, gorgeous [...]

From this moment on

Sunday we caught the train to Lake Como. Liz wanted to track down George Clooney (who apparently has a villa on the lake somewhere). However our Clooney hunt was forestalled by the fact that the Formula 1 speed boat grand prix was being held at Como so the ferries weren`t running. There were 2 aussies in the [...]
