Well it was back to the Regent Theatre on Wednesday to see Wicked again (thanks to an about-to-expire Ticketek voucher). Last time we saw an early preview from the very front row of the stalls, this time we saw it from the second back row of the dress circle.
The major differences in seeing the show then and now is perspective.
From the front row you see faces and expressions up really close (and could easily tell which one was Christina Tan from tap) but from the back you could see more of the ‘magic’ of the show. For example Glinda’s bubble looks way more ‘bubble-like’ from the dress circle than it did from the stalls. From the dress circle Amanda Harrison didn’t look as ‘green’ as she did from the front row. Things like that – nothing that enhances or detracts just observations & perspectives.
This is such a good show and once again the cast received a much deserved standing ovation.
May I say it was also good to have my faith in live theatre restored after the disappointment that was the MTC last Saturday night. Still haven’t been able to blog about that.
On a separate but slightly related note: the Australian Opera is performing Sondheim’s A little night music as part of their 2009 season. It stars Nancye Hayes, Robert Grubb & Taryn Fiebig (all from this seasons’ My Fair Lady) as well as Sigrid Thornton.
Will definitely be going along to that one.
